From 2009 to 2013, FANTOM was a quarterly magazine, in English, on the uses and abuses of photography. From March 2014, it will transform into an online magazine fantomeditions.com. The contents are structured into sections: photographers converse with each other in EYE TO EYE; excellent eyes (re)discover and (re)think new and rare things in SAMPLE SIZE; BY APPOINTMENT ONLY peers into a collection and its collector; in EYE OF THE BEHOLDER, talents are celebrated by gallerists; while MEANS TO AN END explores the surprises and latent meanings of images produced for science, commerce, surveillance, documentation and so on. Here the vernacular takes precedence over the artistic (and vice versa) and the images guide every discussion. Fantom is a journey that orients readers and viewers along the horizons of photography; of those who criticize, exhibit, collect, occupy, or emulate it. Whether found, forgotten, or not yet discovered, Fantom first and foremost gives photographers a voice, with interviews, portfolios, and statements; through the silent, yet never mute, medium of photography.
